If you enjoy traveling on the open road in a large truck transporting goods from one place to another, you may consider turning your passion into a highly-rewarding trucking career with Duncan and Son Lines. With the current deficit of 48,000 truck drivers, the industry is eager to find qualified candidates to fill the positions. This essential, and often overlooked, career is an excellent choice for people who enjoy traveling and want to earn a substantial salary while doing so, yet it often is hard to balance work and family life. Duncan and Son Lines offers you the best of both worlds with competitive pay, excellent benefits, great home time, and positive work culture.
Truck Driver Pay
Truck drivers have the potential to earn large salaries each year. Although many make much more, the average yearly salary for a new truck driver is $43,503. At Duncan, a driver can make $65K their first year. This amount varies widely depending on the following factors.
- Education: Drivers who have completed a certified trucking course qualify for higher-paying jobs. These courses typically last from three to six weeks and teach you how to handle a big rig in all weather and road conditions.
- Experience: Drivers who have worked in the industry for more than a decade often earn substantially higher salaries than people who are just starting their trucking careers.
- Special skills: If you hold a special skill on your CDL that allows you to transport over-sized loads, hazardous liquids, or luxury cars, you usually earn a much higher salary than truckers who do not have any special skills.
- Time-Driven: The more you work, the more you earn. Truck drivers are expected to work approximately 300 days out of the year, which leaves little time for the family unless you work close to home. Unmarried truckers may earn more than others who have families because they have more time to dedicate to the job.
Truck Driver Benefits
Because there is a shortage of truck drivers, many trucking companies offer substantial benefits for joining the industry. Duncan and Son Lines is no exception. Because we understand the importance of family, one of the best benefits we offer is an excellent balance between work and home life. With our company, you can choose from intrastate trucking jobs that allow you to be home every night or interstate jobs that still give you several nights a week at home.
With federal regulations in place to keep drivers from becoming overly tired, you will never work more than 60 hours a week or 70 hours in eight days. Before you can begin a new week of driving, you must take at least 34 hours off, so being close to home allows you to spend the downtime with your family. Our drivers get a 34-hour restart each weekend at home; however, this is optional and not mandated by FMCSA. When you work with Duncan and Son Lines, you can successfully balance your family with your job so you never have to choose one over the other.
Truck Driving Culture
At Duncan and Son Lines, we value our dedicated truck drivers and treat them as if they were part of our own family. We are constantly looking for ways to improve safety measures and keep our work environment positive and uplifting. As part of this process, we organize several community service events each year to bring our team closer together and foster an excellent relationship with the community around us.
